Dental Cleanings Encinitas CA

Going to the dentist every six months is imperative to helping you maintain your oral health. With regular cleanings, you can avoid developing serious dental health concerns such as tooth decay and gum disease. You may think that daily brushing and flossing is enough, but by missing a small area, you can be allowing decay and disease causing bacteria to grow. Which is why preventive dentistry and cleaning treatments are so important to Dr. Scott Jordan and his team.

Importance of Dental Cleanings

  • They remove tartar build-up – While brushing and flossing daily is ideal in removing most of the food particles, harmful bacteria, and plaque from your teeth, it is inevitable that you will miss those hard to reach spots between teeth and at the back of your mouth. When plaque isn’t removed, it can calcify into tartar or calculus, which cannot be removed with brushing and flossing alone. In order to remove this tartar, your dentist must use a special tool to scrape away tartar build-up before it causes decay and gingivitis.
  • They prevent tartar build-up – After your dentist has removed the plaque and tartar from your teeth, they will often apply a fluoride treatment. Fluoride is known to help strengthen the enamel of your teeth and protect against decay causing bacteria.
  • They help prevent tooth loss – When tartar isn’t removed often enough, it can start to push its way under the gum line, causing the gums to become inflamed and swollen. When this happens, you can quickly develop gum disease. Without treatment, gum disease can cause the gums to recede, resulting in the bone degenerating until the tooth falls out.
  • They keep your smile beautiful – Plaque build-up can start to cause teeth to become discolored and dull. Not only will cleanings remove this plaque to give you a whiter smile, but they will also polish your teeth to give them a shiny and bright finish.
